Ian Studied at the world renowned Newark school of violin making in England, and on his return to his home  town Banchory, he will continue to work as maker and repairer of stringed instruments.



Ian has been greatly  influeneced by family and friends who play instruments, and with his love of  classical and folk music decided that his vocation was to become  a luthier and after much soul searching  and research found the Newark school of violin making, one of the leading centres for repairs and restoration of string instruments in the world

Born in Stonehaven in the 60s and local in Banchory soon after, Ian's first encounter with  the violin was from his grandmother Jean Greig a harmonica  and fiddle player.

Then a visit to Skye's festival in the 1970's did it for him and he was hooked on violins.
